A Trip to the Mountaintop!

We are having a wonderful experience here in Trujillo and tomorrow we go to Cayalti to set up a distribution site there. Today we worked hard all day in fact it is 7:30 PM and some are still working on a complicated wheelchair. When my team was done around 6 PM, I got to go out into the hall for the first time today. The hall is where the new people are registered and also where the people who have just received a chair get to hear the gospel message delivered by very experienced counselors. All the people were gone except one man who was sitting with the counselor. The man was Victor! I recognized him from last year. He returned because the chair he got last year was worn out. When I saw Victor a year ago, he was very big and strong and very angry with God because of the accident he had had. Since the accident, he was unable to talk or walk. As I worked with him last year, I tried to tell him that God loved him. He screamed out! After a few minutes, he calmed down and I continued to talk to him about Joni and how the wheelchairs came to be here in Peru. Any time I mentioned God during that explanation, he again screamed and got very upset. We modified a wheelchair for him and he seemed satisfied with it. His wife was most grateful. They then went to the evangelism station. Victor became so agitated as the Gospel was shared, they had to take him away to another room and were unable to finish sharing with him.

Well today, one year later, I saw Victor sitting in the hall at the counselor station. Someone else saw him today and fit him with a wheelchair. He looked very good sitting in it. The counselor was talking to him and his neice Brenda. The name of God was spoken many times during this presentation. Not once did Victor scream or even get upset. Brenda bowed her head and prayed to receive the Lord! Victor didn't pray. The counselor continued to share the Good News with him. Anytime he looked away, Brenda would touch his face and tell him he needed to listen. So he would turn back and listen. After several more minutes, the counselor invited Victor to pray with him to receive the Lord. With a short nod of his head, Victor indicated he wanted to pray. The counselor spoke the words and Victor quietly indicated he agreed!! Thank you, Lord for Victor and Brenda's salvation and thank you that I was able to be there to witness it!

  1. Hi team,
Thanks for the story about Victor and Brenda! We keep collecting wheelchairs here- you keep finding new owners for them and telling the Good News of Jesus Christ there! We've had 2 donors of pediatric chairs this week. We are praying for all of you. Your friends in Christ, Mary and Fred Steinbach

Isaias 43:10-13

  4. Yes Donna, I am glad you were there as well, what an encouragement.

Oh God, be with Brenda and Victor. They are just beginning their new life in You. Would you put other stong believers in their path so they may grow in the Spirit, in the word, in prayer and in relationship with YOU. I thank you Lord for the faithfulness of the servants from Peru and the US. Strengthen and encourage them today and allow them to breathe, pray, move and serve in the power of the Holy Spirit! May You be glorified in all that is said and done .... and everyone agreed and said AMEN!
